The problem
Ready to give back, but not yet prepared.
For many years, rescue missions have occasionally attempted to hire the graduates from their long-term programs. The long-term program had prepared the client to live the Christian life. The client had the desire to “give back” and become involved in ministry. And the client's personal experience was extremely valuable in testifying to the power of God to work through rescue mission ministry.
But all too often, program graduates were ill-prepared for the intensity of rescue mission ministry that they soon found themselves in. It was one thing to receive the services of a rescue mission. It was quite another thing to be part of providing them.
Similarly, we've found that many people who apply for employment at rescue missions do not have either experience or training in the field, though they often have experience/training in a related field. After all, there are very few colleges, universities, or seminaries offering degrees in rescue ministry work.
