What we stand on
Six marks of the fellowship.
- Gospel centered: beyond social services. Feeding people is not enough. Jesus said (Matthew 4:4) that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Eternal life, and changed lives, only come from the gospel.
- Gospel powered: personal transformation. True change starts when God changes a person from the inside out. The gospel of Christ is the power of God to salvation (Romans 1:16).
- Gospel fools: not of this world. 1st Corinthians 1:18-31 talks about the message of the cross being foolishness to those who are perishing, but the power of God to those of us being saved. The gospel is the spoken message that transforms lives as people hear it & believe, and we must be committed to proclaiming that message.
- Fellowship: better together. We need each other to fellowship in worshipping the Lord as we minister. Our ministries are hard work, and often discouraging. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 states that two are better than one, because if one falls, the other can pick them up.
- Footing: standing firm on the truth. We need others to confront us when we are wrong, to “kick us” (gently) and point out any errors in love but with firmness, as Paul did with Peter in Galatians 2:11-14. When we are wrong, we need others to hold us accountable and to bring us back to the truth.
- Friendship: the joy of teamwork. We also need friendship; people we can turn to for help, for encouragement, for advice, for ideas, for guidance, and for prayer. Proverbs 27:17 says that iron sharpens iron, and we need to help improve each other.
